TEAM SORTING, CUTTING, HORSE EVENTS at Ghost Hollow Ranch
Are you a horse lover? Do you enjoy horse events? Do you enjoy participating or watching team sorting, team penning or cutting? Do you like the state of Illinois? Or how about Illinois State Parks such as Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Park? We're the place for you!
Ghost Hollow Ranch is scheduling team sorting starting the first Saturday in April at noon, and the third Friday starting at 6:30, ending when all classes are finished. The cost for each practice sorting is $5 per rider; you may practice as much as you want.
Team sorting is great practice for those who want to work their horse on cattle. Team penning, cutting, working cow horses and roping are events that would be of benefit to any horse that can sort cattle.
The rules are simple -- 9 cows are sorted from one pen to another by either 1 person or two persons. There are 3 red cows, 3 white cows and 3 black cows. The cattle must be sorted in order chosen by the rider and once the pattern is chosen it has to remain during the 90 second timed run. Cows cannot pass through from one pen to the other at the same time. Cows that enter the pen opening together will be not be counted. The sorting continues until all cattle or sorted or the pattern of sorting is changed. Winner of the event is the team that sorts the most cattle in the least amount of time. We will have a handicap sorting based on the skills of the horse rider.
There are three levels: Beginner (level 1), novice (level 2), open rider (level 3).
Numbers are assigned based on rider skill and are the sole responsibility of Ghost Hollow rating staff because we want to ensure fair play at all times. This is a family event and improper language and behavior will result in expulsion from the event and Ghost Hollow Ranch.
The jackpot sortings will payout awards to riders which will be announced prior to each event. Handicap sorting will be offered and beginning riders can compete with experienced riders. We have indoor and outdoor facilities so we can compete in all types of weather.
